Marmalade

I popped in to a boutique today that was praised highly in the new issue of Афиша.  Aside from Backstage, located inside Loft Project ЭТАЖИ, I hadn’t seen much Russian designer boutique wear (granted, I’m not combing the streets.  I’m not exactly a high fashion expert, nor do I have the funds to satisfy even a fraction of the lust I feel when I walk into fantastic boutiques.), so, since Marmalade is located next to my usual metro station (Невский проспект), I decided to take a look.

There is a distinct Russian influence as a Victorian-era sense of whimsy.  The fabrics are very nice and I spent most of my time touching the clothes rather than examining the design work.  Frankly most of their pieces are not for me, but that doesn’t mean they are not interesting.  I think that they have found an attractive balance between the now-popular delicate and intricate feminine wear that, honestly, I can’t imagine living in, and the more realistic sense of design that can exist practically in the real world.  Their items are to be treasured, but not locked away in precious little box like so many lacy, phoophy designs these days.

Oh, but don’t you worry, there is plenty of Russian “слишком” (too much, over the top) to be found in their collection!

Music that starts playing when you open their page: CocoRosie.

Store can be found in “Passage” shopping center, 2nd floor, on Nevsky Prospect.

Невский пр-т, д.48 литер А, ТД “Пассаж”, 2 эт., тел. +7 951 671 6936

A dress I liked:

Designers: Ольга Шилова, Анастасия Сергеева, and Сергей Бондарев.
